What is the difference between Swedish and Norwegian/Danish Vikings?

<> In 793 the monks on the island of Lindisfarne, off the northeast coast of England, were surprised by the arrival of violent riders from the sea. Their reason for surprise was the first dated event in the saga of the Norwegian  Vikings-the last and most dramatic event in long history of England.

The word Viking is Scandinavian for 'pirate'. There's a difference between "Swedish" and " Danish/Norwegian" Vikings.  The Danish and Norwegian explorers went westward, concentrating on Western Europe and England, Canada. Norwegian Vikings spread southwards from earlier settlements in Shetland and Orkney, temporarily controlling Scotland and Ireland. They also traveled further into the ocean and settled the Faroes. They learned from the Irish of the existence of Iceland.

The Swedish went mostly towards the Eastwards into modern Russia and on to Byzantium and the Caliphate. The Vikings from Sweden settled not far from modern day Stockholm and in the Russian town of Novgorod, which they called " Holmgard". The theory has not been proved yet but it is thought that the Swedish Vikings were the founders of Russia.

" Cattle die, kinsmen die,
the self must also die;
I know one thing which never dies:
the reputation of each dead man."
